WordPress Toolkit (in cPanel) manages WordPress sites installed on your account — including installs created with Softaculous in many cases.
Open Toolkit
cPanel → WordPress Toolkit. You should see each WordPress install listed with status (updates, security).
Updates
- Select the site.
- Review available core, plugin, and theme updates.
- Update on staging first when the site is business-critical (below), then update production.
- Turn on smart update features if offered on your Toolkit version.
Clone / staging
- In Toolkit, choose Clone or a Staging copy for the site.
- Clone into a subdomain (for example,
staging.example.com) or a subdirectory. - Test theme and plugin changes on staging.
- Use Copy or sync features carefully — confirm you are pushing staging → production only when ready.
Security checklist in Toolkit
- Disable file editing in
wp-configif Toolkit offers the hardening toggle. - Keep admin usernames unique; limit login attempts via a trusted plugin if needed.
- Maintain backups.
If Toolkit is not on your plan, install with Softaculous and ask support whether Toolkit can be enabled.
