Migrating your website to 4GoodHosting

Guide from Getting started — written for Canadian customers. Billing always in CAD.

Getting started

You can move yourself, or let us move you.

Option A — We migrate for you (free on annual+)

From our Website Transfer page:

  • We can migrate site, email, CMS, and databases.
  • Requires prepaid annual (or longer) billing.
  • Up to 20 GB at no charge; ask us if you need more.

Open a ticket after signup with old host login details (or cPanel token), domain list, and preferred cutover time.

Option B — DIY (typical WordPress)

  1. Order hosting and log in to cPanel.
  2. Export files and database from the old host (or use a migration plugin).
  3. Create a MySQL database and user in cPanel; import the SQL.
  4. Upload files to public_html (SFTP) or restore a cPanel backup.
  5. Update wp-config.php with the new DB name/user/password.
  6. Test via hosts file or temporary URL before changing nameservers.
  7. Switch nameservers to us (guide).
  8. Force HTTPS; run Email Deliverability for SPF/DKIM.

After cutover

  • Lower TTL at the old DNS a day before if you control it.
  • Keep the old host a few days as rollback.
  • Update computers and phones that used old mail server hostnames.
