Located on the northern shore of Saint Louis Lake, Beaconsfield is basically a part of the Greater Montreal that is popularly known as West Island. The city is bordered by Kirkland in the north, Pointe-Claire in the east and Baie-D Urfe in the west. On 1st January 2002, 27 distinct municipalities of Greater Montreal were merged together. At this time, Beaconsfield was amalgamated with Baie-D Urfe to form Beaconsfield-Baie-D Urfe borough. On 20th June 2004, both the townships voted to be de-merged. As the result, on 1st January 2006, both the towns were re-established as separate cities. According to 2006 census, the population of the city is 19,194, and 53.27% of the residents speak English.
